No one has ever embodied ‘Jedermann’ in such a personal, comprehensive way and in so many different ways as Philip Hochmair: since 2013 in ‘Jedermann Reloaded’ with the band Die Elektrohand Gottes, where he plays all the roles, and then on the actual Salzburg Cathedral Square – in 2018 as a spectacular stand-in, and as a regular cast member since 2024. But the stage, film and television star continues to demonstrate his love for the classics in more intimate settings too. Take, for example, *The Sorrows of Young Werther*, Goethe’s epoch-making epistolary novel. “First and foremost, from a purely literary perspective, it’s of the very highest calibre,” enthuses Philip Hochmair, “every sentence is crafted and polished. That alone is a joy for the heart, the mind and the whole body. And then there’s this brilliant story of a love-induced delirium, which resonates with anyone who has ever found themselves caught up in such an emotional maelstrom. Finding the right balance and knowing where the line is drawn: that’s the theme the book explores.” A string quartet of hand-picked stars accompanies him on this gripping psychological journey.
