When bidding farewell to the world, everyone is alone. Hardly any other work is shrouded by as many legends as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem, on which he continued to work whilst from his deathbed and which he was forced to leave unfinished: a moving encounter with death, a struggle over every note. Even though modern scholarship has long since dispelled all the mystical cobwebs: the fascination remains for this unique work, which Count Walsegg-Stuppach commissioned from Mozart for a great deal of money via a ‘grey messenger’, so that he could pass it off as his own composition during performances at his castle … A select ensemble of vocalists will join Julian Rachlin as he performs the Requiem with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
