Janoska Ensemble meets Rolando Villazón

Rolando Villazón has long since conquered the world’s greatest stages. As Nemorino in *L’elisir d’amore* at the Vienna State Opera, as Alfredo in *La Traviata* at the Salzburg Festival and as Rodolfo in Robert Dornhelm’s film adaptation of *La Bohème* – in all three cases alongside Anna Netrebko – he has secured his place among the outstanding operatic performers of his generation. But Villazón also demonstrates his skill as a lieder singer and zarzuela performer, and more generally with a repertoire ranging from the Baroque to the present day. The author, illustrator and comedian has also long enjoyed success as a director; he is a cultural ambassador for his native Mexico and Artistic Director of the Mozart Week in Salzburg. Together with the Janoska Ensemble, Villazón now approaches well-known classics by Mozart, Lehár and Verdi from a completely new angle, presented in fresh arrangements and transformed by the ensemble’s distinctive Janoska style: this means opera, operetta and tango in an evening full of passion, virtuosity and joie de vivre.
